Job Description: RESEARCH INTERN

Second Peninsula is looking for a Research Intern to contribute to the development of a new documentary-style TV series for the PBS NewsHour and to work on the current mini series “Brief but Spectacular.” This is an exceptional opportunity for a journalism student to gain hands-on experience working for a new program on a national network.  The Research Intern will play an important role in shaping and delivering the show.

 

Responsibilities

  • compile story development research and present episode ideas for consideration
  • pre-interview guests and assess contributors suitability for inclusion in the show
  • book guests and coordinate scheduled appearances
  • compile archive footage: still images and broll for video coverage
  • provide production assistance on shoots

Qualifications

  • passion for television/non-fiction programming

  • strong initiative and follow-through 

  • ability to work competently and creatively in high pressured environments

  • ability to work remotely and with minimal supervision

  • strong communication skills, both verbal and written

  • proficiency with editing software a plus

Status
Part-time. Hours to be determined.

Compensation
Unpaid.  Potential for course credit.

Guests include Alec Baldwin, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Marina Abramović, Michael Lewis, Danai Gurrira, Abbi Jacobson & Ilana Glazer, Robert Reich and our favorite —  little known 92-year-old Flossie Lewis on Growing Old, which has earned nearly 7 million views to date.  Second Peninsula is currently developing an expansion of Brief but Spectacular into a 30-minute weekly series with PBS NewsHour.
